Last Friday, SA Rugby announced a Currie Cup "Covid bye" that extended the period between the last round of matches and the semi-finals from one to two weeks.

With the virus having wreaked havoc with the Sharks squad, leading to the cancellation of their last round robin match against Western Province last week, and some fixture postponements, SA Rugby felt it prudent to have the bye week.
