Cape Town - EP Kings captain Luke Watson is set to go under the knife and faces another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Kings have announced that Watson has a knee contusion with cartilage flap and will need to undergo an operation on Wednesday.

It’s still unsure exactly how long he will be sidelined for, but the injury is another blow for the Kings skipper, who has been a peripheral figure for the past two seasons.

The only other new injury concern for the Kings is that of wing Siyanda Grey, who suffered a hamstring tear in last weekend’s 20-9 loss to the Pumas in Nelspruit.

Players on the long-term injury list include flyhalf/centre Shane Gates (foot), flyhalf Gary van Aswegen (knee), flank Aidon Davis (knee), flyhalf/fullback George Whitehead (knee), lock Cameron Lindsay (knee) and centre Ronnie Cook (toe fracture).

In their next Currie Cup assignment, the Kings host Griquas at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday (15:30 kick-off).
