The sight of 38-year-old Jannie du Plessis darting in from close range for a rare try for the Lions last week was significant on various levels.
Most obviously, the support play between him and front-row partner Sti Sithole showed that the two props possess the necessary finesse for their side's balanced yet high-intensity game and aren't just battle-hardened scrummers.
More significantly though, Du Plessis' showstopper was the biggest confirmation to date that the Lions' band of veterans' older bones are still more than capable of keeping up in general.
