Cape Town - Southern kings coach Deon Davids is worried about a growing injury list as they prepare for this year’s Super Rugby competition.

According to Rugby365, former South African Schools lock and new signing Phillip du Preez is recovering from an ankle injury, while No 8 Aidon Davis and flyhalf Louis Fouche are both still sidelined with knee injuries.

Utility back Jaco van Tonder is recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained last year, while scrumhalf Kevin Luiters is making his way back from a strained calf. Lock Cornell Hess was also sent home on Monday due to illness.

The Kings had a contact session against the NMMU Madibaz last Friday, where a few more players suffered injuries, albeit minor ones.

According to Davids, centre Lukanyo Am sustained a bruised knee, while fullbacks Malcolm Jaer and Jurgen Visser both had tight hamstrings.

They will be monitored ahead of the Kings’ warm-up clash against the SWD Eagles in George on Friday.

The men from Port Elizabeth open their Super Rugby campaign at home against the Sharks on Saturday, February 27.
