Cape Town - Sharks captain Pat Lambie could miss the start of the Super Rugby season as the shoulder injury he picked up in Friday night's friendly against Toulon continues to be assessed.

The Sharks won the match 29-21, but the Springbok flyhalf was withdrawn towards the end of the first half.

The news coming out of the Sharks camp on Monday was that Lambie had suspected AC joint damage in his right shoulder.

"He is currently undergoing scans to determine the severity of the injury," a Sharks spokesperson told Sport24 on Monday morning.

While Lambie is certain to miss Thursday's friendly against Toulouse, he will stay in France with the squad where his injury will continue to be monitored and treated.

The Sharks could not confirm whether or not Lambie faced missing their tournament opener against the Kings in Port Elizabeth on February 27, and said they would provide a full injury report once they had more information.

Lambie, given the Sharks captaincy ahead of the 2016 season, has had a tough time with injuries in the past.

In 2014 he missed the majority of the season with a torn bicep and in 2015 his World Cup preparations were hampered by a neck injury.
