The Lions have endured their fair share of criticism over the past five years for a perceived lukewarm commitment towards transformation, especially in terms of playing numbers at senior level.

Indeed, match-23s seldom nudge past seven or eight players of colour - a figure frowned upon in a time where the minimum expectation is over 10 - though the franchise has, reasonably enough, never made a secret of the fact that they favour quality over quantity.
