If there's one lesson Covid-19 has taught South African rugby it's that a global pandemic means pragmatism needs to rule.

Industry-wide cost-cutting, immediate re-evaluation of existing competition models and more prudent contracting has just been a few of the measures the sport has had to adopt in the wake of the virus' accompanying economic turmoil.

On Tuesday, SA Rugby's general council - which includes its provincial unions - has to vote the four franchises that will participate in an expanded PRO16 from 2021/22 onwards as well as a new funding model for members.
