Expect engrossing tussles across the park, with the hourglass counting down to the British and Irish Lions series, when the unbeaten Sharks (two log points ahead) and Bulls meet in the Rainbow Cup SA at Loftus on Saturday.

Apart from its importance to the competition, the match will also serve as a mini-Springbok trial in many senses - especially now that the Boks’ fuller mid-year programme, beginning with two tune-up Tests against Georgia in early July, has been thankfully nailed down.

But if there’s one likely, positional duel that stands out most appealingly for the weekend at this point, it is difficult to look beyond national captain and open-side flank incumbent Siya Kolisi - unless there are some unexpected selection shake-ups later this week - strutting his stuff for the visitors against an increasingly concerted challenger for the Bok No 6 role, Marco van Staden.
