One of domestic rugby’s worst-kept secrets is out, with the weekend confirmation that Springbok captain Siya Kolisi has severed his ties with WP Rugby after more than a decade.

All that is left (imminently?) is the official unveiling of the popular loose forward as a Sharks player, hooking up with the “Masotti money” aspirations at Kings Park.

Exactly where Kolisi, 29, will fit in positionally and in the on-field leadership hierarchy remains to be seen, although he represents a significant beefing-up of their top-line resources in the position ... at a time when WP, by contrast, are thinning a once majestically-stocked area (think also Cobus Wiese, Kobus van Dyk, Jaco Coetzee, and a little earlier the exit of Sikhumbuzo Notshe to Durban as well).
