Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond has heaped praise on scrumhalf Faf de Klerk following his man-of-the-match performance against the Northampton Saints on Tuesday night.

The Springbok scrumhalf was omnipresent during his 74-minute stint, making 25m from 11 runs, 52 passes and three tackles.

"He's a hero for us, let's be honest," Diamond said of De Klerk. "He's such a bright spark, such a positive influence."

Sale's 34-14 win at Frankin's Gardens took them to within a point of third-placed Bath on the English Premiership log.

Their win did come at a cost, though, with England centre Manu Tuilagi leaving the field with an Achilles injury after 12 minutes.

England coach Eddie Jones will also be sweating over the fitness of Northampton forward Courtney Lawes, who suffered an ankle injury in the eighth minute.
