The Blitzboks are off to a winning start at the Sydney Sevens after beating African neighbours Kenya 31-5 in their tournament opener on Friday.

The South Africans were out of the blocks fast, surging to a 21-0 lead at half-time that had essentially put the game to bed.

Shilton van Wyk scored two tries while Shaun Williams, James Murphy and skipper Siviwe Soyizwapi also scored.

Ricardo Duarttee, meanwhile, knocked over three conversions.

The Blitzboks are also pooled alongside New Zealand and Uruguay in Pool B of the competition, and they are next in action when they take on Uruguay at 00:44 (SA time).

South Africa are currently in 4th position on the 2022/23 Sevens Series log behind New Zealand, USA and Argentina.
