For a lot of relatively battle-weary Springbok rugby players who ply their pro trades either in South Africa or abroad, any rest opportunities from here to the start of the Test season in four weeks’ time will be richly appreciated by the Springbok brains trust.

But less so, possibly? Handre Pollard's inconvenient, early finish to the French Top 14 on Saturday.

The customary first choice in the vital flyhalf position, remember, only recently began his measured comeback from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury - one of the modern rugby player’s major curses - for Montpellier.
