Du Toit tips the scales in new Springbok record

Cape Town - Thomas du Toit will become the heaviest Springbok front-ranker in history if he gets onto the field against Wales at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 16:30 SA time.

While 'the scale can certainly lie', reports suggest the 22-year-old prop will rewrite the record books.

According to his Sharks profile, Du Toit weighs in at a massive 136kg.

That, according to Rugby365, would make him just 2kg lighter than former Springbok lock Rudi 'Vleis' Visagie, who weighed in at 138kg when the Boks and France met in 1993.

The website adds that Du Toit is 1kg heavier than Bok prop legend Os du Rant and 6kg heavier than Ollie le Roux was during his time with the national side.

Du Toit is in the Bok set-up for Saturday's clash against Wales because of a groin injury sustained by Tendai Mtawarira against Italy this past weekend.

Mtawarira's availability for Wales is yet to be determined, but if he is ruled out then Steven Kitshoff is expected to start while either Du Toit or Trevor Nyakane will be the loosehead cover off the bench.

Coach Allister Coetzee will name his side on Thursday.
