Cape Town - England coach Eddie Jones is reportedly eager to include former Bulls No 8 Jono Ross in his squad for their tour to South Africa in June.

The 27-year-old Ross had two stints with the Bulls - 2011/12 and 2013/14 - before joining French club Stade Francais where he played for three seasons.

He then joined the Sale Sharks in 2017 and has caught the eye of the England coach.

According to The Telegraph, Ross is eligible to play for England on account of his grandmother hailing from Essex.

Sale’s director of rugby Steve Diamond told the English publication that Jones had enquired about Ross.

“We have had conversations with Eddie and Steve (Borthwick, England forwards coach) about Jono,” Diamond said.

“All we can do is to get him to play like he has been playing and then we back it up with the odd conversation.”

Ross said he would welcome the opportunity of playing for England.

“If I managed to catch the eye that is something I would love to do. I just want to play well for Sale and, if anything comes off the back of that, then great.”

England’s first Test against the Springboks is scheduled for June 9 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg, with Tests in Bloemfontein (Free State Stadium, June 16) and Cape Town (Newlands, June 23) to follow.
