Sport24 asked: What led to you releasing a book and how has it been received?
Heyneke Meyer: The book came out last November and during these Covid-19 times, I wanted to share some life lessons with people in business and sport. So much of the news people consume is negative and I wanted to make them feel positive and fight one more round. Little did I know that I would also have to fight as I contracted Covid and was sick for two weeks. I used the seven principles I speak about in the book to overcome the virus and am back to normal now. Every morning when you wake up you have decision to make: to either be positive or negative. It's a conscious decision and expends the same amount of energy. I stopped taking calls because everybody you speak to just gives you the negative information. I decided to write the book so others can follow their dreams. You are going to have setbacks but you have to keep fighting. I've had unbelievable feedback - the book is in the top 10 in all the stores and the No 1 sports book. I've been asked to write an autobiography but I didn't believe in that because you have to be controversial in order to sell copies and that's not who I am. I thought I would rather speak of leadership and life lessons and it has gone off really well.
