Gender-based violence has been happening for so long in South Africa and we are forever witnessing our sisters, mothers and daughters being victimised on a daily basis.

It's also something that has affected me personally as it happened within my own family with men abusing my sisters and cousins.

When I was growing up, there was no senior male figure in our family. After my brother died, I was the only man in my family and I was young as well. I was powerless to do anything about it, and I couldn't even speak up or voice my opinion on how wrong it was.
