Oldest living Bok captain turns 87

Cape Town - South Africa's oldest living Springbok captain, Des van Jaarsveldt, turned 87 on Thursday.

Van Jaarsveldt, born in Zimbabwe, led the Springboks in 1960 against Scotland in Port Elizabeth when he was 31-years-old.

Having played at flank that day, Van Jaarsveldt scored a try in his side's 18-10 win.

It would be his only cap for the Springboks.

The SA Rugby Legends Association celebrated Van Jaarsveldt's birthday with him on Thursday, with former Springbok wing Stefan Terblanche a part of the celebrations.
