Cape Town - The rugby world was left shell-shocked on Wednesday following the passing of former Springbok wing James Small.

According to a SA Rugby press release the 50-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Johannesburg on Tuesday night after suffering from a suspected heart attack.

Small played 47 Tests for the Springboks between 1992 and 1997 and scored 20 tries.

He represented the Lions (formerly Transvaal), Sharks and Western Province at provincial level.

He was also part of the Springbok team that won the 1995 Rugby World Cup on home soil and became a record Bok try-scorer in the 1990s.

Small's famous battles on the wing with former All Black counterpart Jonah Lomu have been well-documented.
