Cape Town - Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer is hoping that reserve hooker Schalk Brits can fulfil a similar sort of impact role like Bob Skinstad did successfully in the past.

Meyer on Wednesday included a full frontrow, with Brits as hooker, amongst his reserves for the Test against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, with the coach hoping to use his reserves to make an impact late in the game, similar to what Skinstad did during the highly successful 1998 season under Nick Mallett.

"The one thing which we lacked is guys who can make a difference as substitutes. Just think back to someone like Bob Skinstad," Meyer told Die Burger's website.

For this reason Meyer decided to pick the 31-year-old Brits ahead of Chiliboy Ralepelle on the bench.

"Chili won't let you down as a starting player. He is very good with the basic aspects of the game, but I'd really like to have an impact player on the substitutes bench.

"Schalk is in good form and he knows the conditions in the Norhern Hemisphere. I think Schalk is just a better impact player," aid Meyer.

CJ van der Linde en Pat Cilliers are the props on the bench and will also be utilised in a tactical manner.

After the Test against Ireland on Saturday (19:30 SA time), the Boks face Scotland a week later in Edinburgh before concluding their tour against England in London on November 24.
