Some already have conspicuously lesser heads of hair than others … John Dobson and Jake White, with great respect, come quickest to mind.

But all of South Africa's premier-franchise masterminds are in the sort of limbo over their medium-term squad strengths that is enough to spark a collective greying process for them.

It has to do with the vexing question of whether South Africa will, indeed, commit to the anticipated Rugby Championship in Australia between November and December and, if so, what proportion of a necessarily large Bok squad would be plucked away from the meatiest phase of the looming domestic tournament.
