Hurricanes will be Sharks’ toughest match Down Under

Cape Town - Ahead of undoubtedly their toughest match on their tour Down Under, Sharks coach Sean Everitt is encouraged by the signs shown by the team over the opening fortnight of Super Rugby.

The Sharks will play their second game of the tour to Australasia against the Hurricanes at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington at 08:05 (SA time) on Saturday.

The Sharks have had a dream start to their 2020 Super Rugby campaign, winning both their opening matches against the Bulls and Highlanders.

Everitt’s men will be hoping to make it three victories in a row - and their second on the trot on tour - after they kicked it off with an emphatic 42-20 win over the Highlanders last Friday.

Though the Hurricanes started the season with a 27-0 drubbing at the hands of the Stormers in Cape Town, the Kiwis went to Argentina and clinched a 26-23 victory over last year’s runners-up, the Jaguares.

A win for the Sharks in Wellington would set them up nicely ahead of their trip to Australia where they will play the Rebels and Reds before heading back home.

“We are happy with where we are at the moment, this team is new, but they are starting to learn quickly and that’s a sign of a successful team,” said Everitt from New Zealand.

“We are looking to improve from week to week, but I’m very happy with the results.”

Going forward, Everitt would like to see some consistency throughout the game from his defence.

“I think our defence was outstanding (against the Highlanders), although at times we did let them beat us on the outside, but the energy of this team is such that we were able to scramble and close them down and stopped them from scoring tries.”
