Dreyer left Johannesburg after the 2018 Super Rugby final to join Gloucester, who were coached by his former mentor at the Lions, Johan Ackermann.

However, injuries saw Dreyer make limited appearances for Gloucester, and with Ackermann having left to take charge of Japanese side NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes, Dreyer has opted to head home.

The 29-year-old made over a century of appearances for the Lions across the Currie Cup and Super Rugby and also played four Tests for the Springboks in 2017.
