You always want to avoid, of course, irking the big units.

So yes … a few forwards were well worth their pay packets on a slippery closing weekend of Super Rugby Unlocked that saw the Bulls rightly confirmed as maiden champions.

Duane Vermeulen led the Pretoria outfit's general pack vigour, for example, in the platform-laying first half of their home match against the Pumas, for whom eighth-man Willie Engelbrecht paid best possible tribute to his father (he died hours before the fixture) with a rousing showing of his own.
