Beleaguered Western Province president Zelt Marais has hit back at accusations that he prevaricated, thus deliberately scuppering a potential private investment that would have helped the union escape its current crisis.

This came after Western Province Professional Rugby (WPPR) chair Ebrahim Rasool accused Marais of spending six months without responding to an eager Hong-Kong-based private equity firm interested in buying a share of the Stormers franchise.
