Former Lions and Cheetahs lock, JP du Preez will make the move from Sale Sharks to Glasgow Warriors next season.

A Sale Sharks player since late last year, the move is subject to Du Preez obtaining a visa.

The 27-year old is the Warriors first new signing ahead of the 2022/23 season according to their website.

Before turning out for the Cheetahs, Du Preez played for the Lions, making his debut in Super Rugby in 2015.

Standing at  6’10” the lanky lock offers a secure lineout presence as well as having the ability to steal opposition ball.

“I’m really excited to be joining Glasgow Warriors,” du Preez said of the move.

“Glasgow play a style of rugby that I like to play – running rugby with a hard and physical edge.

“I like to think I’ll compliment their style of play and I believe I bring strong lineout presence and a physicality in both attack and defence.

“I’ve played against Warriors in the past and they’re a very tough side to compete against, especially in Glasgow in front of their home fans.

“I can’t wait to be a part of the team.”

Warriors head coach Danny Wilson said that Du Preez had the physical presence that Glasgow are looking for.

“We’ve been impressed with JP's recent performances for Sale Sharks," he said.

“At 6’10”, and 122kg he’s the type of physical player we wanted to add to our squad.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience having played in the PRO14, Premiership and Super Rugby and we look forward to welcoming him to the club next season.”
