Teenage winger Canan Moodie will make his Bulls debut when they tackle the Lions in a United Rugby Championship encounter in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The 19-year-old was vice-captain and a star performer for the Bulls' under-20 side last year.

The youngster will be surrounded by a wealth of experience in the Bulls backline which sees veteran Springbok flyhalf, Morne Steyn, returning to the starting team alongside Bok scrumhalf Embrose Papier, while the midfield pairing consists of Harold Vorster and Lionel Mapoe.

Kurt-Lee Arendse will start at fullback, with Madosh Tambwe at left wing.

With Cornal Hendricks missing out, Marcell Coetzee is back to lead the Bulls after coming off the bench in last weekend's 30-26 loss to the Stormers in Pretoria.

In the front row, Simphiwe Matanzima starts at loosehead prop in place for Gerhard Steenekamp and Jacques van Rooyen at tighthead in place of Mornay Smith, while Johan Grobbelaar retains the No 2 jumper.

"The Lions showed a good fight in their match against the Sharks last weekend (a 47-37 defeat). We have no doubts that they will want to build from that and go one better in search of a win in their own back yard this weekend," Bulls director of rugby, Jake White, said in a statement.

"It is always a tough, physical battle against the Lions. They are a well-coached side that will throw everything at us. We are looking forward to another exciting URC encounter."

Saturday's match at Ellis Park kicks off at 15:00.
