Did you hear that "thunk" from the goalposts? There may just have been a detrimental shifting of them from a South African perspective.

This was meant to be the start of the great "equalising" period in the maiden season of the United Rugby Championship … the SA franchises potentially making up much-needed ground on their various European rivals through a timely trot of home fixtures.

No guarantees, of course, but there had seemed every likelihood of the overseas outfits finding the SA summer going every bit as tough as our quartet found it on their respective four-match rosters on the other side of the equator recently.
