Two tries from winger Edwill van der Merwe helped the Lions to a well-deserved home victory over Cardiff in a United Rugby Championship clash at Ellis Park on Sunday.

The Lions ran out 37-20 winners after leading 24-13 at half-time.

Scrumhalf Morne van den Berg and flanker Vincent Tshituka also crossed the whitewash for the hosts, who bagged a try-scoring bonus-point in the process.

The win saw the Lions end a five-game losing streak.

They are 14th in the 16-team URC standings, with two wins from 10 matches.
