Slap up the just-revealed United Rugby Championship (URC) 2022/23 fixtures on a nearby wall and, strictly in isolation, they fall short of looking too brutal for any of the four South African sides.

It is only when you add to the mix the first-time inclusion this season of the Stormers, Bulls and Sharks in the prestigious, broader European Rugby Champions Cup and the Lions (plus non-URC Cheetahs) in the parallel, slightly lower-level Challenge Cup that a crush-related wince is quite understandable.
