Cape Town - Former Springbok wing Ashwin Willemse was reportedly taken aback by the announcement that his contract with SuperSport had expired.

The pay-channel on Thursday confirmed to Sport24 that Willemse would not be back on television as his contract with the company had run its course.

Willemse has ignored Sport24’s numerous attempts for comment but it appears he was surprised by Thursday’s announcement, telling the TimesLIVE website that he had not read the news and did not know what they were talking about.

The former Bok made headlines in May this year when he walked off a SuperSport set, accusing fellow analysts Nick Mallett and Naas Botha of "patronising" and "undermining" him.

SuperSport’s subsequent investigation into the matter found no racism on the part of Botha or Mallett, however Willemse opted not to participate in the investigation.

Following the internal inquiry, Willemse said that he would be elevating the matter the Equality Court, but SuperSport confirmed that they had not yet heard from the Equality Court.

Instead, the company on Thursday said it was in communication with the Human Rights Commission, as per the instruction that came from Advocate Vincent Maleka SC’s report after the inquiry.

SuperSport would not open up on whether or not there were negotiations

Mallett and Botha have since returned to the SuperSport studio.
