Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba has praised his two goal scoring heroes, Thamsanqa Gabuza and Keagan Dolly.

Both, Gabuza and Dolly, grabbed a brace in each half against Gambia to hand South Africa their first win in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The 4-0 thumping delighted Mashaba despite failing to clinch a spot in next year’s continental spectacle in Gabon.

Mashaba emphasised that all the players selected who took part in last week camp and match did well because they were selected on merit.

“If you look at the number of players we selected up to this far, not even a single one is not doing well,” said Mashaba.

“If you look at a player like Gabuza he is always on and off at his club but if you looked at him on Saturday, he was fireworks.

“He would have played against any defence in the world and still score goals because he is a very strong man.

“He is strong both on the ground and in the air and that worked for us, and Keagan (Dolly) as well on the left did exceptionally well.

"He created good chances for us, he gave us numbers when we attack and when we defend."

Only pride will be at stake when Bafana face Mauritania, in the last qualifying game, on September 3.
