On 5 September 2017, Bafana Bafana walked off the Moses Mabhida Stadium pitch with familiar dejected looks on their faces, which South African fans have seen time and again.

They had just bottled a home tie, losing 2-1 to unfancied Cape Verde at home, only four days after losing to the same opponents by the same score line at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde.
