Cape Town - Banyana Banyana midfielder Refiloe Jane reveals that the women’s national team have been working hard as they head into a busy period.

South Africa recently participated in their first FIFA Women’s World Cup where they failed to register a single victory and were sent packing after the group stages.

However, Banyana Banyana are out to redeem themselves when they defend their COSAFA Cup title starting on Wednesday.

The tournament runs until August 11 and will then shift their focus to the Olympic qualifiers.

"It hasn’t been an easy journey for the team. So much preparations have gone to the EWC qualifiers, the actual tournament, the world cup and now we've come to COSAFA Cup," said Jane.

"So, we’re going to try, by all means, to do our level best and try to retain the trophy.

"We’ve learned so much at the world cup and coming back home there are so many things to share with the other players."

She added: "We just want to keep raising our game. We don’t want to be at the level we were before going to the world cup.

"There are so many things to play for after the COSAFA tournament, there are the Olympic qualifiers that we still need to prepare for."

In the opening encounter, Jane and her team-mates will face Comoros Islands on Wednesday (kick-off is at 15:30) in Port Elizabeth.

Banyana Banyana also have Malawi and Madagascar in Group A.

Group B comprises Zambia, Namibia, Mauritius and Botswana.

Croup C contains Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Angola and Eswatini.

The top team in each pool and the best second-placed finisher will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament, which runs until August 11.
