MATCH REPORT: Injury-time Sangare strike foils Foster’s delight as Bafana blow it to draw with Liberia

The strike was so surreal it seemed like something out of this orbit – like an alien object shooting like a cannon into the goal.

That’s how Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams must have felt as Mohammed Sangare’s 91st long-range rocket earned Liberia a 2-2 draw in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier at Orlando Stadium on Friday night.

That draw should surely taste like a defeat for Hugo Broos and his Bafana charges.

However, all is not lost.

The men's senior national team could still qualify for the tournament in Ivory Coast.

A win in Monrovia on Tuesday (18:00) will keep Broos's charges in the race for qualification.

It could go down to the last match against Morocco in June as both Liberia and SA still have to face the Atlas Lions.

Meanwhile, Bafana depart for Liberia over the weekend.

FULL-TIME: Bafana Bafana 2-2 Liberia

Bafana Bafana let slip a two-goal cushion as Liberia came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at Orlando Stadium in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Lyle Foster nailed in an early spot-kick after Percy Tau was brought down in the penalty box before the Burnley striker completed his brace with an excellent headed effort to give South Africa a 2-0 lead after just 20 minutes.

But Liberia made swift changes in the second half to crawl back into the clash as super-substitutes Tonia Tisdell and Mohammed Sangare scored to ensure the West Africans leave with a valuable point.

Liberia welcomes South Africa to Monrovia on Tuesday and whoever wins secures their tickets to the Afcon tournament in Ivory Coast next year.

24 March 19:54

Wow!

Liberia equalise coming from a wonderful strike! Take a bow.

Super-substitute Sangare from nearly 25-yards makes the score 2-2 at Orlando Stadium.

The Liberians are trying to out-muscle the South Africans by using their size.

Hlongwane tries to find Foster with a lopp-pass but Kamara spots the danger and clears.
10'
The ball is given away by Bafana Bafan in their own half and there is then a shout for PENALTY in the box but Tisdell went down far too easily.

PENALTY TO SOUTH AFRICA after Tau is taken out by the Liberian keeper. Tau needs attention but is ok.
12'
GOAL, SOUTH AFRICA, FOSTER! 1-0: Lyle Foster takes his time before sending the keeper the wrong way! Cool!
14'
Percy Tau takes a through-ball in his stride but the cross for Hlongwane is overhit.

Once again the ball is given away cheaply by Bafana Bafana but somehow they get it back, They then build nicely before Mokwena's shot is WIDE!
19'
Good work by Percy Tau to put pressure on the Liberian backline.
22'
GOAL, SOUTH AFRICA, FOSTER! 2-0: Bafana Bafana secure a corner and it is floated into the near post by Mokwena. Foster rises above to head it into the net on the far post. Brilliant!

GOAL, SOUTH AFRICA, TAU! 3-0: A beauty by Tau into the net.
54'
NO GOAL! 2-0: The goal has been overturned! That was an indirect free-kick so had to be touched by someone. A poor mistake by Bafana after such a brilliant execution.
