The South African Football Association (SAFA) has received up to 200 CVs for the vacant Bafana Bafana head coach role, technical committee chairperson Jack Maluleke said.

SAFA recently terminated the five-year contract of Molefi Ntseki and the governing body is already on the lookout for the next Bafana Bafana coach - the 10th mentor in 15 years for the senior men's national side.

"We have received lots of CVs from abroad and some from locally," Maluleke said on SAFM.

"We have about 150 to 200 CVs for the vacant Bafana coaching job. Tomorrow we will have a meeting to discuss the shortlist of five.

The Bafana Bafana job has always been poisoned chalice, but already a host of names, locally and abroad, are linked with the vacant post.

Pitso Mosimane seems to be the favourite candidate for the position but previously served as national coach for two years (2010-12) and currently resides in Egypt as head coach of African powerhouse Al Ahly.

Maluleke denied reports that the SAFA hierarchy will fly to Egypt to convince Mosimane to take on the task of signing on for a second stint as national men's mentor.

"I have read reports that we are flying to Egypt this week to meet with Pitso, but that's not the case," he said.

"But we welcome all the names that have applied and those that have been mentioned in the media."

AmaZulu head coach and Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy is next on the list, and he has publicly stated that he is interested along with former Cape Town City and Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler.

SAFA is linked with international candidates such as Herve Renard (France), former Bafana Bafana mentors Carlos Queiroz (Portugal) and Philippe Troussier's (France).

Maluleke added that they hoped to make an official announcement at the end of the month.

"After we have made our shortlist of five, we will then submit to the NEC for approval," Maluleke said.

"We hope to have a coach by month-end. We are still looking both locally and overseas."

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana are back in action in less than two months as the 2022 World Cup qualifiers' provisional dates have been confirmed.

South Africa are in Group G with neighbours Zimbabwe, Ghana and Ethiopia.

Bafana will first face a trip to Zimbabwe in their opening group fixture on 5-8 June. Before hosting group favourites Ghana, a week later, between 11-14 June.
