Cape Town - Bafana Bafana will have to ensure that they win their remaining games if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Gabon.

Shakes Mashaba's charges started their AFCON qualifying campaign in June 2015 against Gambia. The game ended in a goalless draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium while their second encounter was a surprise 3-1 defeat at the hands of minnows Mauritania.

And with their latest 2-2 draw against Cameroon in Limbe last Saturday, Bafana have it all to play for when the two sides meet again in Durban on Tuesday, March 29.

The Indomitable Lions are currently in first place with seven points, Mauritania find themselves in second position on six points, with South Africa (two points) next best, while Gambia (1 point) are bottom of the pile in Group M.

51 nations are taking part in the AFCON qualification and are divided into 13 groups.

The winner of each group automatically qualifies for the tournament, along with hosts Gabon.

To fill the remaining two spots in the 16-team finals, the two best overall group runners-up will also qualify for the tournament.

At the half-way mark of the qualification process, Mashaba's side are way off the current best two overall runners-up points scorers.

Firstly, they would need to surplant Mauritania in second spot in their own group before they can even be considered.

With three games left, all is not over, but Tuesday's encounter against Cameroon becomes a make-or-break tie which could determine Bafana's future.

Kick-off is at 19:00.
