Cape Town - Arsenal have announced that Jack Wilshere will not take part in their pre-season trip to Scandinavia due to a new injury setback.

The England international's career has been blighted by injury since he broke onto the scene in 2010 and he missed virtually the entire 2015/16 campaign with a broken ankle.

Wilshere managed just three appearances for the Gunners last term, although he recovered in time to feature for the Three Lions at Euro 2016.

The 24-year-old midfielder was included in Arsene Wenger's squad for the USA leg of their pre-season tour, but he sustained a knee problem in their first friendly in California and missed the second outing.

The north Londoners confirmed on Thursday that the club's youth product will not turn out for Wenger's side against either Viking in Norway on Friday or Manchester City in Sweden on Sunday.

Wilshere is now considered doubtful for the Premier League opener against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on August 14.
