Bayern monitoring Sane recovery ahead of January market

Cape Town - Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has made it clear the Bavarian giants are still very much interested in signing Manchester City winger Leroy Sane.

Bayern wanted the Germany international in the summer and at one point it looked like a deal would be done between the two clubs.

City boss Pep Guardiola always maintained he wanted to keep the winger but the 23-year-old was continually linked with an exit and Bayern made it clear they were hoping to land him.

However, the serious knee injury Sane suffered in the Community Shield against Liverpool in early August put paid to any possible transfer and he's recovering while still at City with an expected return date not until February at the earliest.

Hoeness will not be at Bayern in the new year when the window reopens as he is leaving his role in November but he has strongly suggested the club will attempt to reopen negotiations with the Premier League champions for Sane.

He told the Planet Futbol Podcast: "We were very much interested. We had discussions with him, but his big accident, awful injury... we could not go on with that.

"Therefore, we have to wait now [and see] how his recovery goes on. I think the new people will have to sit down in January or February [and decide] what's going on with that."

Sane is under contract at City until summer 2021 and is valued in excess of £75 million after scoring 39 goals and managing 45 assists in 134 appearances in all competitions for the club.
