Cape Town - Newcastle
United manager Rafa Benitez has praised his team's character and
attitude, as well as their willingness to fight for their place every
Benitez made five changes ahead of the Magpies' Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, and saw his charges come back from two goals down to salvage a draw on the road.
"When you play two games in a few days, it’s important to have fresh legs," said the Spaniard, according to the Shields Gazette.
"It means also that everybody has to be on their toes if they want to stay in the team.
"I think it’s another positive signal for the future, because everybody will say ‘I can play, so I have to carry on if I want to continue playing’.”
When asked about the impressive comeback at the Hawthorns, Benitez added: "It’s very positive for the future. I said before that this team cares. These players care.
“They have very good team spirit, and we showed this character and ambition. It’s quite good for the future.”
The Magpies next face the daunting task of making the trip to Stamford Bridge to face English Premiership champions Chelsea on Saturday.
Kick off is at 14:30.
