Cape Town - Enes Unal's agent has confirmed that the striker has a buy-back clause in the £12 million deal that took him to Villarreal from Manchester City.

The Turkey international has secured a permanent move to Spain with the Yellow Submarine after spending the last two seasons on loan in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Unal impressed during his most recent loan spell - a 12-month stay with Twente which brought 18 goals from 32 Eredivisie outings, and attracted interest from Spain, Germany and France.

The 20-year-old decided on a move to La Ceramica, but not before City ensured they had a future option to bring him back to the Etihad Stadium

"I can't give the names of the teams that were interested in Enes Unal," his representative, Batur Altiparmak, told beIN Sports. "But our choices were down to two, a team from Spain and a team from Germany.

"We chose the team from Spain. We wanted Enes to play for Villarreal because they have been playing in 4-4-2 formation for a long time. And apart from Barcelona and Real Madrid, they're used to having possession against every team.

"That's why we decided that Villarreal was the best fit and the team from Germany was very sad about it. They really wanted to sign Enes.

"Manchester City didn't interfere with our process. They just wanted us to keep them posted. At first, they wanted to loan Enes out again but we told them that teams eager to loan players are not usually very strong and often have financial difficulties.

"City agreed but told us: 'We are a big club and we will only sell Enes if we have a buy-back option. We can sell him for €15m and buy back for €25m'."

Meanwhile Benfica sold goalkeeper Ederson Moraes to Manchester City for €40 million on Thursday, making the Brazilian the second most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

The fee has only been eclipsed by the €53 million that Juventus paid Parma for Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.
