Cape Town - Swansea City manager Paul Clement believes striker Bafetimbi Gomis could return to play for the club next season, after they avoided relegation.

The French striker joined Olympique Marseille on loan at the start of the 2016/17 season, and went on to enjoy one of his most successful league campaigns yet. The 31-year-old bagged 19 goals in 30 Ligue 1 appearances.

Gomis revealed recently that he would like to continue playing for Marseille, but a permanent offer has not been tabled, and Clement believes the fact that the Swans are still in the Premier League could sway Gomis to return. He still has one year left on his contract with Swansea.

Clement also made it clear that he is eager to see which of his players out on loan would cut the mustard at the Swans for next season, before he goes into the transfer market.

“There are possibilities for him to come back,” said Clement, according to Wales Online. “I spoke to Matty Grimes and Kyle Bartley at Leeds and said to them 'you're Swansea players' and before I look anywhere else I'm going to look at what we have got from within. We want people back pre-season to train and we will go from there.

“I haven't spoken to Bafe yet; the last thing I saw was he was keen to stay where he was, but now we've stayed in the Premier League it could be an attractive proposition for him to come and play back here.”
