Cape Town - Nigeria midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo made his first appearance in the colours of Stoke City since joining the English Championship side from Feirense in Portugal.

The Super Eagles star, who played all three of his nation's matches at the recently concluded World Cup in Russia, spent the second half of last season on loan at Las Palmas in Spain's La Liga.

He impressed for La Union Deportiva but ultimately was unable to help the side stave of relegation to the second tier. Nonetheless, his performances caught the eye and he was snapped up by Stoke manager Gary Rowett for €7.2million.

As such, the energetic 22-year-old play-maker made his unofficial debut for the Potters when he came on against German second tier side VFL Bochum in a friendly on Wednesday.

The encounter took place at the OBI-Arena in Rheine and both goals in the pre-season contest came from the boot of Die Unabsteigbaren's defensive midfielder Vitaly Janelt.

Nonetheless, Etebo nearly had a say in the clash as he saw his fizzing strike from distance whistle just wide of the post with five minutes to go.

Stoke are currently on tour in Germany as they gear up for the 2018/19 campaign in England's second division.
