Cape Town - Burnley have received a major boost ahead of the new Premier League campaign after captain Tom Heaton signed a new four-year contract.

The former Manchester United trainee joined Sean Dyche's side on a free transfer from Bristol City in 2013 and has gone on to become an integral part of the Premier League side, keeping 50 clean sheets in 138 games and becoming a full England international.

"I am obviously over the moon to sign for another four years," he told the club's official website. "I'm really looking forward to the challenge, especially this season and whatever comes after that.

"Being at Burnley has been fantastic for me and I've enjoyed every minute, on a personal note.

"Now I'm looking forward, as I say, to what the future is, to keep challenging myself and the position."

Heaton, who had two years left on his previous deal, has committed himself to the Clarets until July 2020.
