Cape Town - Wahbi Khazri believes Sunderland will avoid the drop this season based on the quality he's seen at the club since his arrival from Bordeaux.

Sam Allardyce's side have fought valiantly over the past few weeks against the Premier League giants, narrowly losing 1-0 to Manchester City, gaining a credible draw against Liverpool after trailing 2-0 for most of the game at Anfield, and winning 2-1 win against Manchester United last week.

The Tynesiders still remain in the relegation zone, but Khazri is adamant that they have a squad capable of beating the drop.

"We played big games and we've showed that we're worth more than the bottom three," the 25-year old told the Sunderland Echo. "It will be good to recuperate properly and work on a few things because the matches come around so quickly.

"We've just got to take it match-by-match and do what we need to stay in the Premier League. It's very tight down the bottom and all we need is a good run of wins."

Since his 11,8m Euro move from Les Girondins, Khazri has scored once and contributed two assists in his first three fixtures.
