Manchester - Former Manchester United and Sweden winger Jesper Blomqvist feels Victor Lindelof would be the perfect signing for his former club if a proposed move goes through in January.

Benfica defender Lindelof, who has 11 international caps with Sweden, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford with reports suggesting that the Portuguese club are willing to sell for a fee of £38-million.

With Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly going to the African Cup of Nations in January, Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his defence and Blomqvist, who played for the Red Devils from 1998 until 2001, has no doubts that his countryman has the attributes to thrive in England.

Blomqvist told  Manchester Evening News: "I was watching the November match between Sweden and France on TV and caught a glimpse of Jose Mourinho in the stand and my first thought was that it could only be Victor Lindelof he was looking at.

"My second thought was what a great signing that would be for the player and Manchester United. It would be perfect.

"He's quick, confident with the ball, likes to play and is very strong. For United fans, I think the best comparisons would be with Rio Ferdinand and Ronny Johnsen. I'm not saying he is at their level yet, but he is very capable of getting there."

Former Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic added that he thought the 22-year-old was ready for the step up to a move to a bigger club as he was a full international with European experience who plays regularly for Benfica.

The 35-year-old striker will be looking to continue his goal-scoring form when United welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford on Monday night.
