Manchester - Manchester United are on the cusp of an EFL Cup final against Southampton, but face a congested schedule if they advance against Hull City on Thursday night.

The final clashes with their Premier League game against Manchester City, which would need to be rescheduled.

With both Manchester clubs still alive in the FA Cup and with European campaigns to restart, City against AS Monaco in the Champions League round of 16 on February 22 and United in the Europa League round of 32 against AS Saint-Etienne on February 27, it is uncertain when their derby could be played.

“I know that it’s going to be hard if we go step by step. If, if, if we go to the field of the ifs, but if we beat Hull and we play the final, then we don’t play against Manchester City," United manager Jose Mourinho said ahead of their second-leg semi-final, to which they bring a 2-0 advantage.

“The match against City, I’m sure they will choose an amazing moment, difficult for us, to make us play against them.

"Then we have Europa League, a non-stop competition. In the Europa League you have to play last 32 and last 16.

"If we are going to progress it’s going to be really difficult. Let’s see what happens in this moment. In this moment we have a 25% chance to win the League Cup, which is the first competition to be decided,” Mourinho said.

United will be looking to kill the tie against Marco Silva's Hull by adding to their 2-0 advantage when the two teams clash that will see them book a place to Wembley Stadium in the final against Southampton.

Kick off is at 21:45.
