Cape Town - Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho dismissed rumours linking midfielder Marouane Fellaini with a move to Galatasaray by saying that there was a better chance of him joining the Turkish giants before the Belgian.

Galatasaray said they were in talks with Marouane Fellaini over a possible switch from Manchester United.

The Belgian midfielder came through a difficult spell at the Premier League side to perform well under Jose Mourinho last season.

It was felt that the 29-year-old would be one of the first out of the exit door upon the Portuguese's arrival, but he proved his detractors wrong with an important role in midfield.

But with Mourinho now shaping his side ahead of the 2017/18 campaigns, reports suggest the former Everton man could be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Fellaini has been involved in all of the club's pre-season matches, and played in a 3-0 friendly win over Valerenga on Sunday.

Galatasaray sporting director Cenk Ergun told Ajansspor: "Fellaini will leave Manchester United and he is now on our radar.

"There will be surprises, we are in talks with Fellaini.

"We have made an approach, we are close and if we get Fellaini we will end our pursuit of [Villarreal's Alfred] N'Diaye.

"We need a player like Fellaini who can move around in midfield."

Fellaini's departure may be influenced by whether or not United are able to capture Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.
