South African attacker Percy Tau drew praise in England from Brighton fans as he set pulses racing with an impressive debut against Manchester City in a narrow 1-0 defeat in the Premier League on Wednesday.
Tau lasted 67 minutes in his first start for Graham Potter's side and made an impressive start to life at the Albion against a formidable Manchester City side.
The 26-year-old drew praise from Brighton fans who were left excited at Tau's potential while also receiving encouraging words from Potter and opposing manager Pep Guardiola.
"It is a difficult game for him [Tau] as a forward because they make you defend as a team," Potter said post-match. "So that takes away a little bit of his attacking qualities, along with Leo [Trossard].
"They both work so hard for the team, they work so hard and were fantastic in that regard. They grew and grew. He [Tau] has only been with us for a week, we have to make sure he is available for the coming games, good first game, he will get better and he will get a better understanding with us."
While Guardiola praised Brighton's style of play and heaped praise on his opposing manager as the best English manager in the Premier League.
"We were in front of the best English manager right now," Guardiola said. "You have to be a top side to play that way.
"The quality they have, they show it. They have good players, good build-up. The two central defenders, [Lewis Dunk and [Adam] Webster, are fantastic.
"Every pass makes sense. Their movement between the lines up front makes sense. Every player is in his position to get the ball and be free.
"The people up front are so fast, with [Percy] Tau, [Neal] Maupay, until the last minute."
Tau is genuinely unbelievable, the South Africans were right
