Adams joins American contingent at Leeds

USA international Tyler Adams was reunited with Leeds manager Jesse Marsch after completing a reported £20 million move from RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Adams previously played under his compatriot at both New York Red Bulls and Leipzig.

The 23-year-old is expected to fill the role vacated by Kalvin Phillips following his move to Manchester City.

"I am super excited," Adams told LUTV. "Talking to my friends who have played in the Premier League, they say it's one of the best atmospheres they have ever played in.

"Now to have those fans supporting me, it's going to be something special."

Adams made his Major League Soccer debut as a teenager under Marsch in 2016 before moving to Europe three years later with Leipzig, where the Leeds boss was assistant to Ralf Rangnick before taking on the senior role.

He made 101 appearances for Leipzig, most memorably scoring the winner in the Champions League quarter-final victory over Atletico Madrid in 2020.

He joins his international teammate Brenden Aaronson, who joined last month from another of Marsch's former clubs Red Bull Salzburg.

Leeds have also signed Darko Gyabi, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca as they look to avoid another Premier League relegation battle after narrowly avoiding the drop last season.

Dutch international Wout Weghorst joined Turkish side Besiktas on a season-long loan Tuesday following Burnley's relegation from the Premier League.

The 29-year-old forward scored just twice in 20 appearances for Burnley after signing for the club in January from Wolfsburg.

Weghorst has 14 caps for the Netherlands and played for his country at Euro 2020 last year.

Besiktas finished sixth in the Turkish top flight last season, a year after winning the league and cup double.

Lens signed goalkeeper Brice Samba on a five-year deal Tuesday, bringing him in as a replacement for injured Venezuela international Wuliker Farinez.

Samba, 28, helped Nottingham Forest earn promotion to the Premier League last season for the first time since 1999, saving three penalties in their play-off semi-final shootout win against Sheffield United.

He will take over as first choice at Lens with Farinez sidelined for several months by a serious knee injury.

Sekhukhune United unveiled five new signings on Tuesday to bolster the squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Sekhukhune performed above expectations in their maiden campaign in the top-flight last season as they finished in 11th position.

And they have gone about looking to cement their DStv Premiership status for another season with the acquisitions of Thamsanqa Masiya, Lesego Sebetlela, Trésor Tshibwabwa Yamba Yamba, Wonderboy Makhubu and Badra Ali Sangaré.

Sundowns academy graduate Masiya joins from relegated Baroka FC.

Sebetlela is a 23-year-old defender and makes the move from ABC Motsepe League side MM Platinum FC.

Yamba Yamba arrives from Zambian top-flight side Red Arrows and Makhubu from University of Pretoria on loan from Baroka.

Finally, Sangare was Ivory Coast's first-choice goalkeeper at the Africa Cup of Nations and remembered for the wrong reasons for his howler against Sierra Leone.

The 36-year-old leaves JDR Stars in the GladAfrica Championship.

Christophe Galtier said he was ready to impose himself on Paris Saint-Germain's dressing room of superstars after being appointed as the club's new coach on Tuesday to replace the sacked Mauricio Pochettino.

Galtier, who left PSG's Ligue 1 rivals Nice last month, has signed a two-year deal at the Parc des Princes with the French champions confirming the appointment shortly after announcing Pochettino's departure.

"Yes, I am emotional, yes I am proud," Galtier said at a press conference in the French capital.

"I realise full well the responsibility that has been given to me but I have prepared for this. I wouldn't have accepted this job if I didn't think I was capable of it."

Galtier may not be as well-known internationally as some of the other names who had been linked with the PSG job -- most notably Zinedine Zidane -- but he has an outstanding reputation in France where he won the Ligue 1 title with Lille last year.

Divock Origi has signed for AC Milan after being let go by Liverpool at the end of last season, the Serie A champions confirmed on Tuesday.

In a statement, Milan said the 27-year-old Belgian international has "signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2026" worth a reported four million euros ($4.23 million dollars) a season.

Origi arrives at the Serie A team after not having played enough matches to trigger an extension to his contract with Liverpool.

He was largely a bit-part player at the Reds but scored vital goals over his eight years on Merseyside, making him a favourite of fans and manager Jurgen Klopp.

Those strikes include two in an astonishing comeback against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, and the second is that year's final as Liverpool lifted their sixth European Cup against Tottenham.

Origi made 176 appearances for Liverpool after arriving in 2014, scoring 41 times.

He has been capped 32 times for his country, but all three of his international goals came in 2014.

Milan have brought in Origi to bolster a forward line which struggled for goals despite winning last season's thrilling Serie A title race.

Coach Stefano Pioli's two veteran centre-forwards - Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic -- netted just 19 times between them in the league.

Last month Ibrahimovic was ruled out for up to eight months following knee surgery, having missed large chunks of Milan's title charge with injury.

Two days after the announcement of Ibrahimovic's operation, director and club legend Paolo Maldini said the 40-year-old intended to continue playing, and Italian media reported that Milan are ready to extend his contract by another year.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has finalised his backroom team for next season, with Rodolfo Borrell becoming assistant and Enzo Maresca rejoining the club.

The changes, announced by the Premier League champions on Tuesday, were prompted by the departure of Guardiola's previous number two, Juanma Lillo, last month.

Borrell, who has previously worked at Barcelona and Liverpool, has been at City since 2014 and on the first-team coaching staff since Guardiola's arrival in 2016.

Maresca, formerly head coach of the club's elite development squad, joins Guardiola's team a year after leaving City for what proved a short spell as Parma manager.

"Manchester City are delighted to announce that Enzo Maresca has returned to the club as part of Pep Guardiola's backroom staff," a statement read.

"Rodolfo Borrell, who has been at City since 2014, will step up to the role of assistant coach in place of the recently-departed Juanma Lillo."

Cape Town City FC chairman John Comitis has suggested that the club would be open to the idea of selling star player Thabo Nodada.

Nodada has been one of the standout attacking midfielders in the country over the past few seasons and has reportedly attracted the interest of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 27-year-old is said to be unhappy at the Citizens and wants to move to a bigger club. Comitis admits the club are very reluctant to sell players as they need all the quality they possess as the Mother City outfit will be playing Champions League football in the upcoming season after securing an impressive second-placed DStv Premiership finish last season.

However, the City head honcho says it could be counter-productive to keep Nodada at the club against his will. He did, however, say that they would only consider selling Nodada should they find a player of a similar calibre to fill the void.

"We plan to sell no players because we want to go for the Champions League and try our best in that tournament and we need the depth. Nodada is definitely part of that but, you know, we also need to think about the player and we also need to think about what would be a situation in trying to replace him," Comitis told Sowetan yesterday.

"We will analyse all that, but at the moment there's nothing discussed. We haven't heard from Sundowns. We will wait for a phone call from them because we've got a relationship there [at Sundowns]. Sundowns will speak to us if they're really keen and we'll take it from there."

Sundowns have made a habit of buying City players, having recruited Bradley Ralani, Aubrey Ngoma and Lyle Lakay from the Cape side in the past few seasons.

Barcelona on Monday announced the signings of Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie and Denmark defender Andreas Christensen on free transfers.

Kessie joins from Italian champions AC Milan while Christensen arrives from Chelsea. Both have agreed four-year deals with Barcelona.

The 25-year-old Kessie spent the past five seasons in Milan after first arriving in Italy with Atalanta in 2015.

He scored seven times in 39 appearances for Milan last season as the club won the Serie A title for the first time since 2011.

Christensen, 26, made 161 Chelsea appearances over 10 years at Stamford Bridge, winning a number of trophies including the Champions League and Europa League.

He had not played for the Blues since withdrawing himself from the selection on the morning of the FA Cup final against Liverpool, which Chelsea lost on penalties.

Kessie will be presented by Barca on Wednesday, with Christensen set to be unveiled on Thursday.

Salah ends speculation by signing new Liverpool contract

Mohamed Salah ended speculation over his Liverpool future on Friday by signing a new contract that will reportedly run until 2025.

Salah, who has scored 156 goals in 254 appearances for Liverpool, had entered the final year of his previous contract with talks stalling over the 30-year-old's wage demand.

However, the Egypt forward said he has more trophies at Anfield in his sights after finally putting pen to paper.

"I feel great and excited to win trophies with the club. It's a happy day for everyone," Salah told Liverpool's website.

"It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what's next."

Since joining from Roma in 2017, Salah has become a fundamental part of Jurgen Klopp's side, helping establish them as serial contenders for domestic and European success.

He scored in the 2019 Champions League final victory over Tottenham and was the club's top scorer when they won the Premier League for the first time in 30 years in 2020.

Last season Salah was crowned Premier League player of the year by both players and football writers after scoring 31 goals that took Klopp's men to the brink of a historic quadruple.

Liverpool won the League Cup and FA Cup, but missed out on the Premier League title by a point to Manchester City and lost the Champions League final 1-0 to Real Madrid.

"I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going (upwards)," Salah added.

"Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies.

"I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We have new signings as well.

"We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again."

Retaining Salah is a massive boost to Liverpool's chances of continued success under Klopp, who also signed a new deal to remain in charge until 2026 in April.

Liverpool had already lost one key player this summer when Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich after six years at Anfield.

However, Darwin Nunez's arrival from Benfica for a fee that could rise to a club-record €100 million has softened that blow.

Crystal Palace sign England goalkeeper Johnstone

Crystal Palace signed England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free transfer on Friday after his departure from West Brom.

Johnstone agreed on a four-year contract with the Eagles as he returned to the Premier League after a season in the second tier with West Brom.

The 29-year-old started his career at Manchester United and has played three times for England.

He moved to West Brom for £6.5 million in 2018 and made 167 appearances for the Baggies in all competitions.

Johnstone will compete with Vicente Guaita and Jack Butland for the role of first-choice keeper in Patrick Vieira's side next season.

"I'm really excited to be here at Crystal Palace. It's a great club with fantastic facilities and brilliant supporters. I can't wait to get started," Johnstone said.

Moussa Sissoko joins Nantes from Watford

France midfielder Moussa Sissoko has joined Nantes from Watford, the Ligue 1 club announced on Friday, ending a nine-year stay in English football.

The 32-year-old has signed a two-year contract for a reported £1.8 million.

Sissoko signed for Watford from Tottenham at the start of last season but could not prevent the Hornets from suffering relegation from the Premier League.

He first moved across the Channel in 2013 to join Newcastle after a six-year spell with Toulouse, going on to play for Spurs, with whom he reached the Champions League final in 2019.

Sissoko has made 71 international appearances for France, but has not played since their Euro 2020 last-16 loss to Switzerland last year.

Nantes will play in European competition next season for the first time since 2004 after qualifying for the Europa League group stage by winning the French Cup, their first major trophy for 21 years.

Club statement: "We are delighted to announce the signing of Richarlison from Everton, subject to a work permit. The Brazilian international has signed a contract with us until 2027. Richarlison, 25, has made 173 Premier League appearances to date, scoring 48 goals, during spells at Watford and Everton since making the switch from Fluminense in August, 2017. Born in Nova Venécia, the versatile attacker began his youth career at Real Noroeste and América Futebol Clube before making his professional debut in July, 2015. Tottenham are set to further bolster their attacking options with the signing of Richarlison from Everton in a deal that could rise to £60 million ($73 million), according to reports in the British media on Thursday.

The Athletic reported that a £50 million initial fee has been agreed with £10 million more in add-ons for the Brazilian international.

Richarlison joined Everton for £50 million from Watford in 2018.

The 25-year-old scored 53 goals in 152 appearances for the Toffees, crucially netting six times in his final nine games of last season to keep the Merseyside club in the Premier League.

According to the BBC and Sky Sports, Everton need to complete the sale on Thursday to help balance the books with their financial year ending on June 30.

Everton have posted £372m in losses over the last three years. Leeds and relegated Burnley have reportedly written to the Premier League to question how Everton have complied with Financial Fair Play.

Premier League rules state that clubs can lose £105 million over a three-year period, but those regulations were relaxed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A move to Spurs fulfils Richarlison's desire for Champions League football, but he faces stiff competition to play regularly with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min occupying the positions he played most often for Everton.

Tottenham have already backed manager Antonio Conte during the transfer window with the signings of Croatian winger Ivan Perisic, midfielder Yves Bissouma and a new backup goalkeeper in Fraser Forster.

Former SuperSport United goalkeeper Brendan Wardle has warned Ronwen Williams against a potential move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Williams is reportedly a target for the DStv Premiership Champions despite the Brazilians possessing a more than healthy goalkeeper department.

The Matsatsantsa and Bafana captain would have to compete with a spot against Denis Onyango, Kennedy Mweene, Reyaad Pieterse, Ricardo Goss and Jody February if he was to make the switch.

Speaking to KickOff, Wardle said: "Are they guaranteeing Ronwen that he is going to be playing week in and week out? I think he is making a bad move.

"It is a bad move for him to be where he is not guaranteed of being number one when he is our Bafana Bafana first choice.

"What is going to happen now in the national team when he is sitting on the bench at Sundowns? Will he not become frustrated being in a position that he is not used to even though the pay cheque is good?

Wardle added: "If he didn’t take the advice from [Interim boss] Andre (Arendse) then he will put a bullet on his head because Andre was there when they brought in Brian Baloyi.

"He is going to Sundowns for the sake of winning trophies. Who doesn't want to be associated with winning league titles? He also wants to end his career having won league trophies.

"You get a good salary there, but trouble is that once they let go of you other teams are afraid of signing you because you will now be taking a pay cut and you are no longer used to that."

Romelu Lukaku said he was "very happy" to be back after the Belgian international striker arrived in Milan on Wednesday ahead of his return to Inter Milan on loan from Chelsea.

A beaming Lukaku emerged from Linate airport in the early hours of Wednesday morning and gave his short but delighted response to the handful of reporters awaiting his arrival.

The 29-year-old will undergo a medical later in the day before making his long-awaited Inter comeback official.

Chelsea agreed to a reported deal in which Inter will pay an initial eight million euros ($8.42 million) plus a further potential three million euros in bonuses for the loan.

Lukaku will again lead Inter's attack as they attempt to regain the Serie A title after taking a pay cut -- a reported 8.5 million euros for the coming campaign.

Lukaku leaves London after failing to make an impression for a second time at Chelsea, not meeting high expectations following a £97.5 million move from Inter last summer.

He had made himself a fan favourite over two years at Inter after scoring 64 times in 95 games and driving them to their first Serie A title in over a decade, the 2021 Scudetto ending both an 11-year drought and Juventus' grip on Italian football.

However, the financial problems of Inter's owners the Suning Group, exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic led to coach Antonio Conte leaving the club almost as soon as the title was won.

Manchester United have made headway in negotiations with Barcelona over key target Frenkie de Jong and are attempting to sign Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.

A rebuild is required after a wretched season, but the Old Trafford giants failed to bring in any new faces by the time Erik ten Hag kicked off pre-season training on Monday.

Ten Hag coached De Jong at Ajax and reports suggest United have made positive progress in talks with Barcelona.

However, there remains issues to iron out if De Jong is to move to the Premier League, but a deal of around 65 million euros plus add-ons has been lined up.

Malacia is represented by the same agency as his fellow Dutchman and may also be heading to Old Trafford.

A switch to Ligue 1 side Lyon appeared to on the cards for Malacia before United made their move for the left-back.

Interest and admiration of the 22-year-old turned into a bid worth a reported 15 million euros bid, plus 2m euros in add-ons.

Feyenoord news platform 1908.nl have reported club sporting director Frank Arnesen told them: "The agreement is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell.

"If he says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent."

Meanwhile, United teenager Zidane Iqbal has signed a new and improved deal at the club.

The Mancunian of Iraqi and Pakistani heritage made his debut in December's Champions League match against Young Boys and has signed a deal until June 2025, with the option of a further year.

"Delighted to have extended my stay at this wonderful club. Alhamdulillah." 19-year-old Iqbal posted on Twitter.

Newcastle have agreed a deal in principle to sign Dutch defender Sven Botman from French side Lille.

Botman, 22, completed his medical in Newcastle on Tuesday and is set to arrive on a five-year contract in a reported £35 million ($42 million) transfer.

The Premier League club said they had held off competition "from a host of European sides to secure the highly-rated centre-back", with "the formalities of the transfer set to be concluded this week".

Botman's arrival continues Newcastle's rebuilding for the new campaign, with England goalkeeper Nick Pope having been signed from Burnley last week.

Newcastle also signed Aston Villa full-back Matt Targett on a permanent move following a successful loan spell during the second half of last season.

Japan forward Takumi Minamino has completed his move from Liverpool to Monaco, the two clubs announced on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the principality side, for a reported fee of 15 million euros ($15.8 million) with a potential three million euros in add-ons.

"It is a great joy for me to join AS Monaco," Minamino said.

"I am very happy to be part of this very exciting project, at a club with a great tradition and among the most recognised in Ligue 1.

"I'm looking forward to... doing everything I can to help the team."

Minamino, who joined Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg in 2020, scored 10 goals in all competitions last season and was the Reds' top-scorer in both their FA Cup and League Cup-winning campaigns.

He also won a Premier League winner's medal in his first year at Anfield.

But he only made 55 appearances for Liverpool in two and a half years, spending the second half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Southampton.

"I'm sure there will be those who think it didn't quite work out," said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

"Those who think this are wrong. I don't accept that.

"His contribution far outweighs the opportunities we were able to give, in terms of starting matches.

"He made us better each and every day he was with us -- not just in the games he played in but every single session in training."

Romelu Lukaku is expected to land in Italy on Tuesday evening ahead of his return to Inter Milan on loan from Chelsea, the club's CEO Giuseppe Marotta has revealed.

Asked when the Belgium striker would be in Milan by reporters on his way out of an Italian Football Federation meeting in Rome, Marotta said "this evening, I think" while getting into a car.

He refused to answer whether free agent Paulo Dybala would be coming to Inter as that transfer has reportedly stalled while the club try to offload players in order to accommodate the Argentian forward.

Lukaku is expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday before making his long-awaited Inter comeback official after Chelsea agreed to a reported deal in which Inter will pay an initial eight million euros (€8.42 million) plus a further potential three million in bonuses for the loan.

The 29-year-old will again lead Inter's attack as they attempt to regain the Serie A title after taking a pay cut to a reported 8.5 million euros for the coming campaign.

He claimed the cost-cutting required by Inter would have prevented him from building the team he wanted to challenge domestically and in Europe.

Lukaku followed Conte out the door after the-European champions Chelsea offered a whopping sum which eased some of Inter's financial issues and started well on his return to Stamford Bridge.

Coach Thomas Tuchel said "he was the type of guy we were missing" after he netted four times in his first four games, but his next goal didn't come until early December and injury, Covid-19 and poor form kept him out of the team.

He then infuriated Chelsea fans by conducting an interview with Sky Sport Italia in which he expressed his unhappiness and said that he had Inter in his heart and wanted to return. Those comments also led Inter's hardcore ultras to say they weren't interested in having him back, having considered his move to Chelsea a betrayal of his claim to love the Milanese club.

Now he will be part of coach Simone Inzaghi's bid to snatch back the league crown from AC Milan after they finished two points behind their local rivals last term.

Manchester United have made headway in negotiations with Barcelona over key summer target Frenkie de Jong, the PA news agency understands.

Erik ten Hag coached the 25-year-old at Ajax and feels the midfielder would be an important part of the rebuild he is undertaking at Old Trafford.

United are understood to have made positive progress in talks with Barcelona and a deal of around 65million euros (£56 million) plus add-ons has been lined up.

There remains issues to iron out but the first signing of the Ten Hag era appears to be edging closer.

The acquisition of a box-to-box midfielder has been a focus for the newly-appointed Dutchman, who oversaw his first training session as Red Devils manager on Monday.

United have struggled for midfield control and balance in recent years, while the departure on free transfers of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have weakened their options.

The duo are among a number of high-profile departures this summer as Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata also left at the end of their deals.
