  • The annual awards evening will most likely be virtual and streamed across South Africa to ensure safety during the coronavirus pandemic.
  • The team who accumulates the most points in a quarter will still receive the Q-Innovation award which includes prize money.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Irvin Khoza has confirmed that the annual awards evening will go ahead as planned after the season is completed.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the prestigious event will most likely be virtual and streamed across South Africa.

"That is a debate whether it (PSL awards) will be virtual or not virtual. That will be decided by the executive committee," said Khoza during a press conference in Johannesburg.

"But there are preparations going on right now to see if it is going to virtual. If it is going to be virtual, we will have to see who will be coming.

"It's all to do with social distancing which will be a factor taken into account," he added.

Concerns were also raised about the PSL Q-Innovation where a team that accumulated the most points in a quarter would win prize money.

However, Khoza reassured clubs and fans that the top team will be awarded for the final quarter of the season when the 2019/20 campaign restarts.

"The Q-Innovation will be determined as according to the quarter," said Khoza.

"The fixtures won't be changed. Where we stopped, we are going to continue where we left off. So, the Q-Innovation won't be much of a problem," he said.

The PSL announced on Monday afternoon the return date for domestic football in South Africa with the Nedbank Cup semi-finals set to restart proceedings on Saturday, 8 August.

The Brazilians will entertain the Clever Boys while Celtic will clash against Baroka three days before the Absa Premiership kicks off on Tuesday, 11 August.

The PSL are hoping to complete the season by Saturday, 5 September as ongoing discussions of the new 2020/21 campaign is set to be decided in the next 72 hours.
